Working With the Clock You Have

They are working against a genuinely different internal clock, and the friction that produces is physiological, not moral.
Where flexibility genuinely is not available — a fixed early shift, a school timetable, a job that starts at nine regardless of chronotype — the more realistic goal is damage limitation rather than a full fix: consistent wake times even on days off, bright light exposure soon after waking, and dimming light in the hours before an enforced bedtime, all of which can nudge the internal clock closer to the required schedule without eliminating the underlying mismatch entirely.
